2017-18 Tutorial Results Summary

RESULTS SUMMARY

This case study highlights results achieved from tutorial services offered throughout the state of Texas from the previous two school years. Over 3,000 students received tutorials with 44,000 hours of student tutoring provided in the 2017/18 school year. Highlights from last year include significant growth in STAAR scores from Elementary to High School in various subjects. Also, most schools served received performance distinctions with several transitioning out of Improved Required (IR) status.

2017 7th Grade Reading STAAR

RESULTS SUMMARY

The below data highlight the cohort of 7th grade middle school students receiving both pull- outs and push- in/ co-teaching support for the 2016- 2017 school year. Students participated in reading intervention pull- outs through the program in the 2016 to 2017 school year. Students were selected based on their identified need for intensive reading support based on their past STAAR scores, reading levels, or current classroom performance. Their growth was assessed by the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) 7th grade reading test held in May 2017, and these results were compared within this case study to the cohort’s performance on the 6th grade reading 2016 STAAR. Progress measure trends in the APL Tutored Cohort and Non- Tutored Cohort were compared between the students’ 6th grade STAAR reading results in 2016 and their current 7th grade STAAR reading results in 2017. Results point to the effectiveness of a combination of pull- out and push- in tutorials as a method for growing lower performing students within tutorials, and complementing the existing classroom instruction. Both cohorts showed improvements in progress measure migrations, and the tutored cohorts showed significant improvement in migration of students from progress measure 0 to 1 & 2.

2017 5th Grade Math STAAR

RESULTS SUMMARY

Here we follow a cohort of 5th grade students enrolled in our comprehensive instructional support tutorial program using math tutoring pullouts during the 2016 to 2017 academic school year.  The students enrolled in the program were selected based on an identified need for mathematics intervention.  Their growth was assessed by the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) test held in March of 2017, and these results were compared within this results summary to the cohort’s performance on the 2016 STAAR.

2016 STAAR 5th Grade Reading Results

RESULTS SUMMARY

This data summarizes the results of a cohort of 5th grade students participating in an APL intervention support tutoiral program for grade 5 reading.  This particular cohort was initially selected for not meeting minimum passing standard and received tutorial sessions, twice a week for one hour per session.  The results compare the students state assessment pre and post program intervention.

2016 STAAR 5th Grade Math Results

RESULTS SUMMARY

These results highlight a cohort of students participating in APLs intervention support tutorials for 5th grade STAAR math.  Students were selected to participate in the program based on their previous year and current year performance, and the assessed need for further intervention support.  The students participated in Saturday tutorials during the spring semester and scaled scores were compared from 2015 to 2016 for the cohort.  Following tutorials, the average score growth was over 13% from 4th grade to 5th grade math.  Also, within this group, 100% of the students met a satisfactory progress measure on the exam.
