(5 Hours) In this course, teachers will learn how to teach their students the importance of making thoughtful text annotations and using context clues to deepen understanding of a particular text and uncover the meaning of unfamiliar words. Teachers will learn how to instruct students at multiple grade levels, proper annotation techniques that will ultimately help their students respond more effectively on writing assignments. In addition, participants will learn how to set a purpose for their students when reading a new text, as well as how to assess the depth of their understanding through crafted writing prompts and assessment questions.

SUPPORTING READING INSTRUCTION FOR ELEMENTARY LEARNERS
ONLINE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING COURSE
Participants in this course will be exposed to a variety of methods to determine a student’s reading level, with the focus on Fountas and Pinnell’s Benchmark Assessment System, and their accompanying guide to reading behaviors. The training will provide specific ideas for mini-lessons, classroom activities, graphic organizers and anchor charts that will allow teachers to provide instruction for their students in order to help them progress to higher reading levels.

INTRO TO GUIDED READING: A GUIDE TO SMALL GROUP LITERACY INSTRUCTION
ONLINE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING COURSE
Participants in this course will learn about foundational reading skills and how they build upon one another, as well as understanding their relationship to a student’s reading level. The training will cover the background and main components of guided reading, as well as how to plan for a guided reading group. Participants will be provided with a variety of strategy ideas and resources they can implement immediately with their small groups.
