All Action Potential Learning classes are designed by professional, state-certified educators and delivered by career educators or real-life math and science professionals. Our model is to encourage curiosity, provide a problem to be solved and the tools to do it, then let students discover their own unique solution. This active, hands on model teaches problem solving and critical thinking while leading to better subject mastery. Our instructors guide students while allowing them to be the makers of their own learning, a skill-set critical to success beyond the classroom.

Action Potential Learning programs are fun, yet challenging and allow students to engage in real life, career-aligned activities and projects that foster problem solving skills and drive interest in STEM-based subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). All Action Potential Learning curriculum is aligned with state standards and is designed to help build academic mastery of math and science subjects, directly translating to improved classroom performance.

  • Afternoon Entrepreneur

    Students learn the basics of entrepreneurship and business start-ups and craft a specific business plan to bring their ideas to life. Students learn business strategy, finance, and marketing and in doing so will apply real-world principles to school and life.

    Students learn basic budgeting, financial literacy, and more complex principles of finance through their application to real-life scenarios. Students will leave with a firm understanding of cash-flow, financial statements, and investing to understand how finance can effect their own lives and future.

    Afternoon Inventor

    Students learn the basics of community engagement and business start-ups, from creating a website to designing and marketing a unique product. Along with product design, students will learn how to develop a business strategy, use digital marketing strategies, and manage finances to successfully launch and maintain a business, non-profit, or charity. This comprehensive program combines STEM, Literacy, Prototyping, Entrepreneurship, and Finance and is essential for students curious about entrepreneurship or who like to explore and execute their ideas. Administrators may choose the focus of the program from STEM-related product design (programming, circuitry, robotics and more) to non-profit start-up design. With over 15 focus areas to choose from, this program helps to develop the whole child by focusing on specific interests and problem solving skills while helping to improve academics.

  • Ancient Geometry

    Ancient Geometry

    Students learn geometry of the ancients like Euclid and Pythagorous to explore ancient structures, build tesselations, create string art geometrical structures, explore the golden ration and other fundamental geometry concepts. This math-focused class strengthens exploratory skills and encourages students to think differently about mathematics and natural laws.

  • Arduino® Coding

    Arduino® Coding

    Students will learn how to program microcontrollers (mini computers) that allow them to integrate programming with electrical engineering & circuitry in this challenging coding course. Students will also learn ArduinoTM programming to turn on LEDs, mix colors, control motors, play music and more. Students will learn how to combine breadboard circuits and microcontrollers to learn actual programming and independently code their own string of commands.

  • Arduino® Robotics

    Arduino® Robotics

    Students will use small microcontrllers, servo motors, and additional electronics to build a robot then learn to program it using Arduino coding. This class is an extension of APL Arduino coding classes. Prerequisite: Arduino Coding, at least 12 hours

    Art in Circuits

    Students will learn to combine electrical engineering projects into functional crafts, combining principles of science with art. Students use actual electronic components like LEDs, breadboards, and transistors to blend electronics with crafts.

    Brain Training

    This academic-based class focuses on techniques to help students think critically and learn more effectively. The class will cover topics like mental math, memory mnemonics, and computational thinking. Students will learn strategies for calculating complex problems in their head, memorizing long lists or numbers, creating secret codes, and solving problems like a computer. Students will gain the mental tools required to apply these ideas to their academic course work and to help improve performance in the classroom and in life.

    Students will learn to think like ancient scientists and mathematicians to explore scientific calculations that arise from the study of celestial bodies and the interactions between earth and matter. This math-focused class strengthens exploratory skills and encourages students to think differently about mathematics and natural laws.

    Circuits & Superheroes

    Students will build superhero-themed gizmos, gadgets, and games using basic electrical engineering and circuitry principles and design concepts.

    Students will explore the electrical engineering and circuitry principles behind common games, then recreate and build their own games using their new knowledge and creativity.

    Students will explore the engineering and circuitry principles behind toys, then build their own custom or pre-designed toys using the engineering and design concepts learned in the class.

  • E-Textile Arduino® Coding

    E-Textile Arduino® Coding

    Students will learn Arduino coding to build e-textiles: programming textiles to blink accessories, buzz toys, and more. Students will program microcontrollers to perform simple coded functions, then will learn simple circuitry to build their electronics into a textile piece.

    Students will learn the science behind the biotechnology industry including genetics, forensics, diagnostics and career applications for all of the above. Students will gain an understanding of the basic principles of the biotechnology and medical industry as well as understand career opportunities in the industry.

    Fundamentals of Engineering

    Students will choose an engineering track (biomedical, mechanical or electrical) and explore activities and applications of their given field’s engineering principles as they apply to actual careers. This project-based learning class will introduce students to the science of designing and testing experimental engineering designs and strengthen their understanding of basic STEM principles.

    Students will explore the basic principles and science behind green energy production and its uses by building functional projects that use renewable resources to drive powered devices.

    Students will use Lego Mindstorms EV3 to learn drag-and-drop programming and programming logic. Students will build on programming knowledge by competing in challenges ranging from obstacle courses, to battling, to solving STEM-based problems.

    LittleBits® Inventors

    Students are introduced to logic, input and outputs, and other circuitry functions by using LittleBits electronic modules to complete different challenges and tasks.

    Rube Goldberg Inventors

    Students will design and build Rube Goldberg Machines and compete in open-ended challenges that combine complicated engineering tasks to achieve a simple outcome. In doing so, students will learn to integrate electrical and mechanical engineering principles into their designs.

    Scratch Coding

    Students will learn drag-and-drop programming using Scratch. Students will discover programming logic and build on skills that they can apply to more complex coding classes. By the end of the class, students will have the opportunity to build and code their own games using their new knowledge of Scratch commands.

    Students will build and explore the science behind spy gadgets using knowledge of biology, chemistry, circuitry, and physics.

  • STAAR STEM Master

    Our STAAR STEM Master program combines STAAR concept mastery and support for students with TEKS aligned experiments and activities that help promote comprehension and objective mastery of concepts aligned to the TEKS and STAAR exam. We focus on complete mastery of specific objectives using activities, experiments, and traditional tutorials to help develop student interest in STEM subjects, all while promoting mastery of the concepts that will lead to success on the STAAR or in other academic course work.

    Students will learn how to build websites using templates combined with unique html and css coding. The class will focus on designing creative page layouts, effective graphics and multimedia all while learning about the underlying code. At the end of the class students will be able to produce their own fully functional website.

  • APL Student Support Tutorials

    This tutorial package reflects STAAR tutorials held during the school day, before/ after school, or on weekends when activities, resources, and lessons support the work already being performed by the student's teacher at the classroom level, AND where homework and all other student work is provided by the classroom teachers to the tutors. Basic resources including manipulatives and whiteboards, are included in the per hour rate, and regular classroom teachers provide students with homework or other work. This tutorial focus is on student help only, where no concepts or lessons are taught to students but instead where tutors are provided resources for students to ask questions or receive help with homework prompts or current classroom work that must be completed. Tutorials include student progress tracking including daily session notes. This tutorial package focuses only on homework help and support and does not focus on objective content mastery nor on test preparation strategies.

  • ACT/SAT/PSAT Test Prep

    This tutorial package reflects SAT, ACT, or PSAT tutorials held on weekends, before/ after school hours, holidays, or during summer months, or during the school day. All resources including practice tests, lesson plans, curriculum, manipulatives, student notebooks, white boards, etc. are included in the per hour rate. Tutorials include student progress tracking including daily session notes and/ or objective mastery tracking data for students. This is our most comprehensive tutorial package and includes test preparation strategies in addition to content focus for all required standards of the test. *Course instructors for this class have achieved a 95th percentile or higher standardized test score and are extensively trained in content and strategies.
