Bio: Growing up in Houston, I attended St. John’s School and graduated Cum Laude before heading off to Vermont to study at Middlebury College. At Middlebury, I dabbled in Russian and History before settling my academic focus on Physics and Mathematics.  My experience at both of these institutions has instilled in me a deep appreciation for excellence in learning and enjoying the process along the way. Much of my successes in academia and beyond are, I believe, a direct result of the energy and passion with which various instructors and mentors approached the material, and the time each one of them spent framing subjects in a way that was clear to me. As the only female physics major my year, I realized that many students shy away from science and math subjects in fear of not being able to fully grasp the material. As a tutor, I strive to foster more confidence among students in realizing their potential to learn any subject given the right tools and perspective.

Teaching Style: I bring a lot of enthusiasm and energy to the learning process and approach both individual problems as well as  the overall goal of learning with a great sense of excitement. I tend to think of my teaching style as similar to an optometrist - not that I have the ability to correct one’s vision, but in the sense that I like to try viewing material through different lenses until the student is able to understand the subject more clearly.

Summary of Prior Experience: As a teaching assistant at Middlebury College, I ran help sessions and tutorials with small groups of students as well as individualized tutoring. In small group settings, I’ve found great success in working towards finding the gaps in understanding between the students and guiding them to help each other. Working with students on an individual basis gives greater opportunity to break down the student’s understanding and ensure that any and all gaps in understanding are addressed and filled properly.
