Bio: I am a recent college graduate that understands and can relate to the difficulty of being dedicated to academic success. I am happy to pass on knowledge and make it easier for students struggling in certain subject areas I am passionate about. As a high school junior and senior I enrolled in dual credit courses and succeeded at transferring those classes into my undergraduate curriculum. As a new undergraduate with over 40 credit hours I was able to tackle the extra classes that other Biology majors could not fit into their schedules. As a result, the extra classes I enrolled in strengthened my transcript in the areas of Biological and Chemical Sciences. I am passionate about the biological sciences and if you have a wish to succeed in these areas I am a good tutor for you. I am also aware of the different teaching styles that students require in order to learn. As a previous elementary school tutor and a college freshmen tutor I have experience with young children and young adults. My goals are to succeed in the healthcare industry and as such I value the worth of being a professional that offers compassionate care and exceptional service. I plan on applying these values to my teaching career and help those students that have the will to become better.
Teaching Style: My teaching style changes from student to student. I am positive I can find the right teaching style for any type of learner I encounter. I like to evaluate students in their goals and abilities before setting up a plan in which to tackle subjects. With increasing instruction I like to adjust the level of difficulty when doing problems or questions. I believe that this helps me apply positive reinforcement which is one of the best techniques that tutors can use. If a student sees success when practicing he or she can picture themselves succeeding in the future with greater ease. I am always conscious that all students are different and some learn through visualization, written practice, or audio learning. I like to help student realize which type of learner they are and help them develop study skills that will aid them in their academic journey.
Summary of Prior Experience: I was part of a team of undergraduate students that tutored elementary school children in math throughout the semester. The academic scores of the children were significantly increased. My junior year in college I co-tutored a University1000 class with another professor. Our students were taught in the subjects of philosophy and our goal was to aid the students in succeeding in their college careers. As part of the Baylor University New Students Program we aimed to have the least amount of students possible dropout. We met with them regularly and provided aid in their classes by tutoring, providing emotional counsel, and helping them with any situation that might cause a difficult transition into their new lives. We met with them individually by setting up appointments with them regularly and meeting in class as well for lecture. We had a great success rate that year and most of them are close to graduation. The experience was a great one for them and for me.
