Bio: Growing up in Aledo, Texas, I have always loved learning, especially science. After testing the waters in several different majors, I graduated in 2014 from the University of Oklahoma with a major in Biology and a minor in Sociology. I joined Teach for America, where I was placed in Oklahoma City. I spent two years teaching high school Environmental Science and Biology. I loved getting to see students make connections between what we were doing in class and their own lives. Now, I am back in Texas and pursuing a career in pathology diagnostics, but I am still looking to help students find their own love of learning through tutoring.

Teaching Style: My teaching style is student-centered and student-driven. Each student’s needs are different, and it is my job as the tutor to adjust my teaching to respond to the student. Additionally, students retain knowledge better if they can make connections between what they are learning in school and the real world. I try to illustrate and reinforce these connections with the student. I am not satisfied with my teaching until I know that students can go beyond just reciting facts or working basic problems. Students have to understand the “how” and “why” of what they are learning.

Summary of Prior Experience: I taught 9th grade Environmental Science for a year with classes of approximately 30 students. In addition to the content subject, I also helped them adjust to the workload of high school courses and set good study habits for the future. I taught 10th grade Biology for a year with classes of approximately 25 students and prepared them for the state end of instruction exam. My students had the highest pass rate of the four Biology teachers at my school. I also lead ACT preparation session for interested students and worked with students one-on-one in after school tutoring.
